Walter S. Dickerson, President
DEMA is headed by Walt Dickerson, a retired Marine Major and former Director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security for Mobile County, Alabama, a Gulf Coast community. In his role as an EMA Director, Walt has headed up preparedness activities, response operations and long-term recovery in southern AL after Hurricanes Ivan, Dennis, Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike. Walt has overseen the preparedness and security of over 400,000 people and over 2500 businesses positioned at the intersection of two of the busiest interstates in America (I-65/I-10), a half dozen national railroads, the 10th largest port in the nation, one of the country’s largest Container Terminals, a regional airport, military installations and a host of chemical producers and off-shore drilling operations.
Jesse Norwood, Senior Vice-President, Business Development
Jesse is a former Mayor of Prichard, AL, a past-President of the National Conference of Black Mayors (NCBM) and the Alabama Conference of Black Mayors (ACBM). Jesse joins DEMA after 10 years as head of his National Consulting Company, where he specialized in public and private business development business concepts. During his tenure as Mayor, he managed as Chief Executive Officer in numerous natural and manmade disasters for the city of +40,000. In addition to his crisis management experience, he served for 15 successful years in numerous executive leadership roles as creator, incorporator and board chairman of the Mobile County Emergency Medical Services. He serves DEMA as the Senior Vice-President of Business Development , Marketing and Sales.
